Ryan, do you find it difficult to figure out what and how much of a certain item to eat when your are at a gathering where there are not a lot of healthy choices? For example like on Saturday? What do you do?

For something like a family get-together, I just kind of wing it. So long as I don't go overboard on the portions, it's not hard to stay in the "ballpark" of the diet. For example, I had a hamburger on Saturday (and it was good). But I only had the one, plus some fruit salad and a few veggies.

"Old Ryan" would have had a couple burgers, maybe a hot dog, some chips, and whatever else was laying around.

I agree--portion control is such a key thing. It makes a huge difference.

The other good thing to do for family gatherings or parties is to bring a dish to share that is something you know you can eat. That way, you always have something to fall back on.

So...how are you planning to celebrate hitting the big 100??
